2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van Fuel Level Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the Fuel Level Sensor and float assembly (fuel gauge sending unit) in the fuel pump module on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
A: On the fuel pump module inside the tank are the fuel gauge sending unit and the float assembly, also called the fuel level sensor. You should first get rid of the fuel tank and after that, the fuel pump module. Turn off the electrical connector and sever the two sending unit wires at the connector, taking off the locking collar to ease their way out. Push in the small lock tab, slide the sending unit downward and look at the wire connection as you remove it from the pump module. Setup requires you to place the sending unit in the tracks, confirming the wiring is correct and press forward until the lock tab catches the notch. Put the two sending unit wires back into the 4-way connector and add the locking collar and now connect the 4-way electrical connector to the module. Lastly, put in the fuel pump module and reconnect the fuel tank.
