2001 Dodge Stratus Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Disc on 2001 Dodge Stratus?
A: The front brake disc can be serviced or repaired by lifting the car, removing the wheel and removing the tire. Pull the caliper away from the wheel to bring the caliper piston into its bore and then remove the bolts that are securing the disc brake caliper adapter on the steering knuckle. Take out the brake caliper and adapter together and hang the assembly far enough away from the knuckle using either wire or a bungee cord. After that, remove the clips securing the brake disc to the wheel studs and remove the disc. Start by installing the brake disc over the studs of the hub and then set the disc brake caliper and adapter assembly on top of the brake disc. Compress the caliper adapter to the steering knuckle and secure it with the provided bolts, fastened to 80 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). After reinstalling the tire and wheel, rotate the wheel mounting nuts to a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), then bring the vehicle back to the ground. Use the brake pedal several times to make the brake shoes touch the disc before you begin driving on the road and using the brakes several times to help them seat.
