2001 Dodge Stratus Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Front Wheel Speed Sensor on 2001 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before you remove or install the front wheel speed sensor, raise the car on jack stands or a frame contact hoist and remove the wheel along with the tire. After that, separate the speed sensor cable routing bracket from the steering knuckle and the wiring harness sealing grommet retainer and speed sensor routing bracket from the inner fender. Open the fender to find the speed sensor sealing grommet and see the cable connected to the car's wiring harness there. Lift out the grommet and unplug the cable at that point. Lift the speed sensor off by undoing the bolt that joins the sensor to the steering knuckle. In case the speed sensor head pin has corroded and is seized, remove the brake caliper and rotor and tap it out of the steering knuckle with a pin punch. When putting in the wheel speed sensor, link its cable to the wiring harness, slide the grommet on the speed sensor cable into the front inner fender and connect the routing bracket to the attaching bolt. Ensure that the speed sensor cable runs from under the car to the shock absorber so that it does not touch things in motion. Fit the steering knuckle with the routing bracket and then tighten its mounting bolt to a torque of 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Join the speed sensor head to the steering knuckle, applying a very light layer of Mopar Multi-Purpose Grease or similar on the locating pin and fasten the speed sensor head with its attaching screw torqued to 6 Nm (55 inch lbs.). Lastly, set the wheel and tire back in place and see if both the base and ABS systems are working as you drive.
