2001 Dodge Stratus Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2001 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before working with the oil pan, disconnect the negative battery cable, get rid of the oil dipstick and tube and set the vehicle on a hoist. Drain the engine oil and pull out the oil filter, after that, remove the structural collar, exhaust cross-under pipe and cover for the torque converter housing. First, pull the bolt connecting the A/C compressor to the oil pan and then remove all the bolts on the timing cover so they do not damage your engine. After that, remove both the oil pan and gasket. While installing, clean both the oil pan and sealing parts, inspect the oil pan and timing chain cover gaskets and install new ones when needed. Use a 1/8 inch ring of Mopar Engine RTV GEN II on both front T-joints joining the oil pan gasket and the timing cover gasket, then slide the oil pan gasket onto the block. Compress the rubber seal for the gasket by putting in the oil pan bolts (first) finger tight, then secure the timing chain cover to the bolts (second) with 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.); third, tighten the oil pan bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) and, finally, the oil pan nuts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Afterwards, place the lower bolt back on the A/C compressor to the oil pan and tighten it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), set the torque converter housing cover, replaces the oil filter and oil drain plug, then place the exhaust cross-under pipe and the structural collar. Pull the car to the ground, place the engine oil dipstick and tube in their position, fill the crankcase with the proper oil to the marking and attach the negative battery cable.
