2002 Chrysler 300M Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Left Exhaust Manifold on 2002 Chrysler 300M?
A: To start, remove the negative cable from the remote jumper terminal and then hoist the car up. Pull out the exhaust and before dropping down the vehicle, loosen the bolt connecting the converter pipe to the transaxle mount. After that, open and remove the V-Band clamp from the exhaust manifold connector, so you do not reuse it. Disconnect the electrical connector bracket from the harness, disjoin the sensor from the connector and pull the sensor out of the manifold. On the heat shield, unbolt the attaching pieces, then take out the exhaust manifold attaching bolts to remove the manifold and its gasket. Check for any damages or cracks in the exhaust manifolds, make sure the manifold is flat and watch for any signs of distortion or a changed color in the exhaust manifold gasket. You also want to look for any distortion of the cylinder head mounting surface with a straightedge and thickness gauge. During installation, add the exhaust manifold to the top with the gasket in between and tighten the bolts from the middle to the edges to a torque of 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Mount the heat shields again, giving them a 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) torque on their bolts and install the oxygen sensor on the manifold with its electrical connector connected. Install the electrical connector bracket onto the brace, follow with a new V-Band clamp, tighten that clamp to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) and lift the vehicle again on the hoist. Tighten the nut that holds the converter pipe support to the transaxle mount to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), put the exhaust system back in, drop the car and hook up the negative terminal.
