2002 Chrysler 300M Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Water Pump Without Discharging the Air Conditioning System on 2002 Chrysler 300M?
A: On all the models you want to replace the water pump without emptying the air conditioning system, first let the water out from the cooling system and take off the accessory drive belts, as the water pump is driven by the timing belt. After that, pull away the engine timing belt and unscrew the water pump mounting bolts, being sure to observe which longer bolt goes where for correct reinstallation. Take the water pump body out of the engine. Check the water pump for damage on the body, glycol leaks that show as thick deposits, impeller hitting the bottom of the cover or loosened, unsmooth bearings. Drops of coolant weeping through the weep hole are normal, but you should replace the water pump if the seal on the shaft has leaked a lot or let out a large amount of coolant. When installing, remove all dust from the pump and cover O-ring surfaces, apply Mopar Dielectric Grease to the O-ring and attach a new O-ring on the water pump. Slide the water pump toward the engine, screw everything in place and tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). You should then put in the timing belt, accessory drive belts and fill the necessary sections of the cooling system.
