2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Reservoir Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Power Steering Reservoir on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Begin by undoing the filler cap and using a siphon to drain out as much power steering fluid as you can from the power steering reservoir. After that, remove the plastic engine cover and take out the clamp connecting the supply hose to the reservoir, then remove the hose. Perform the same steps, but for the return hose. After that, unscrew the two bolts that connect the reservoir to the engine. During installation, connect the power steering reservoir bracket to the engine using the provided mounting bolts, secured at 10 Nm (90 inch lbs.). Be sure the throttle cable is located in front of the reservoir, just below the upper lip. Put the end of the fluid supply hose into the reservoir fitting and install the hose clamp so that it goes past the bead on the fitting. The supply hose has to be installed over the engine timing chain cover and under the engine wiring harness to keep it from touching anything that could damage it. After that, link the reservoir hose to the fitting on the power steering reservoir and use a hose clamp in the same manner. Secure the cover over the plastic engine, fill the reservoir as needed, start the engine briefly, switch it off, top up the fluid if necessary and then put on the filler cap.
