2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Power Steering Hose on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Begin the service process for the return hose by sipping out all the power steering fluid from the reservoir. With the car up, take off the clamp that holds the return hose to the cooler and move the hose out of the cooler tube. After lowering the car, detach the hose clamp that holds the return hose to the reservoir and slide the hose off the reservoir mount to pull it out of the car. Once you have the clamp, slide it onto the end of the power steering hose that attaches to the reservoir and make sure it does not touch the molded shaped fitting after you tighten it. Route the power steering return hose from the top of the engine bay, inserting the reservoir end into the molded fitting and steering it down and over the engine again. Widen the clamp, then drop it over the fluid reservoir fitting and secure it past the bead there. Before you raise the car, make sure the power steering fluid hoses are not near the exhaust system or any damaging component. Gently rub the open end of the power steering hose and the power steering fluid cooler tube with a clean cloth that doesn't shed lint. Put a hose clamp onto the length of hose, making certain it isn't in the way of the fitting on the steering gear or cooler and finally slide the hose over the cooler tube and secure the clamp past the bead on the tube. Set the ramp height lower, conduct the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation action and check all hose fittings for leaks.
