2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Vapor Canister Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Vapor Canister on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before doing any service to the Evaporative Emission Control Canister, make sure the fuel pressure is released, take off the air cleaner lid and unplug the inlet air temperature sensor, as well as the makeup air tube. Following that, get rid of the negative battery connection, lift the car with a jack and make sure it feels secure. Make sure to drain the fuel tank before you take out the fuel tank and its EVAP system. Pull out the hoses and nails and open the side springs. After that, tip the canister out and away from the support flaps. When installing, place the EVAP canister over the bracket tabs and press it back until the spring clips fasten around the outside of the bracket. Put the push pin through the canister and bracket into the tank, connecting the hoses and lines after that. Put the fuel tank and EVAP system back, drop the vehicle down and reattach the negative battery cable. Now, install the air cleaner lid, put on the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose, add fuel, use the DRB scan tool to pressurize the fuel system and inspect for leaks.
