2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Vapor Canister Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Vapor Canister on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before working on the Evaporative Emission Control Canister, first let out the fuel pressure with the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. Raise the air cleaner's lid, unattach the inlet air temperature sensor, take off the makeup air hose and remove the cable from the negative battery. Lift the car and next empty the fuel tank. Take out the fuel tank and Evap system using the steps in the Fuel Tank removal/installation procedure. With the push pin and hoses removed, clip the springs on the side of the canister, tip it out and make sure it is clear of the bracket tabs. First, line the Evap canister up with the holes on the bracket tabs, push it back into place and make sure the spring clips lock onto the edge of the canister. Then fit the push pin between the canister and bracket into the fuel tank. Once the hoses are reattached, mount the fuel tank and the Evap system as well. Drag the vehicle down by moving the jacks, attach the negative battery connection again and put the air cleaner cover on as you plug in the sensor and hose for the garage air intake. Lastly, put fuel in the tank, activate the Drbiii scan tool to raise the fuel pressure and search for leaks.
