2002 Chrysler Sebring Crankshaft Timing Gear Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Install a Crankshaft Timing Gear on 2002 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Make sure the primary timing chain is off before removing the crankshaft timing gear, because turning the crankshaft may lead to damage. Lift the crankshaft damper bolt and use a grease or its equivalent, then slide in Special Tools 5048-1, 5048-6 and 8539 onto the timing gear and crankshaft and carefully remove the timing gear while avoiding a rotation of the crankshaft. To put in the crankshaft timing gear, turn your Special Tools 6780-1 and 8179 at once, ensuring the timing gear goes as far as the step flange but not turning the crankshaft. Check the depth of the crankshaft timing gear by measuring from the face of the timing gear to the end of the crankshaft and you should get a result between 39.05 ± 0.50 mm (1.5374 ± 0.020 inch). The last step is to install the primary timing chain.
