2002 Dodge Caravan Blend Door Actuator Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does a Blend Door Actuator Differ in Single Zone vs. Dual Zone HVAC Systems, and What Safety Measures Are Needed for Airbag-Equipped on 2002 Dodge Caravan?
A: The actuator used in the single zone system is different from the setting up found in dual zone which includes one for every side of the cabin and the routines are the same for all actuators. Never attempt to diagnose or work on the vehicle's steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel which includes air bag parts, without first removing the battery negative cable and allowing the air bag system capacitor to discharge, waiting two minutes, to stop accidental air bag deployment. Take the silencer from underneath the driver side end of the instrument panel after disconnecting the battery's negative cable. Afterward, unscrew the three fasteners securing the heater core shield to the HVAC distribution assembly's left end. Then, pull the shield to the rear and release the two location tabs. Open the heater shield from the distribution housing, extract the connector from the HVAC wire harness on the blend door actuator and remove the two fasteners to take the actuator out. To install, put the actuator onto the housing, use the spline guide of the actuator to align with the air door if needed, then tighten the two screws securely, being sure not to tighten over 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Attach the HVAC wire harness connector, leave the heater core shield on the distribution housing so the location tabs click and tighten the three screws to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Put the silencer back onto the instrument panel near the driver's side, plug the negative battery cable back in and do the heater-A/C control calibration.
