First, remove the transmission if you're doing the job inside the vehicle, then take off the flexplate. A crankshaft oil seal loses its integrity once it is removed and can't be used again. Turn this Special Tool 8506, making sure the seal is attached deeply and tightened until it won't turn any further. Doing this will correctly remove the crankshaft rear oil seal. During installation, place Special Tool 8349-2 onto the crankshaft rear face and position the crankshaft rear oil seal onto the guide. Now, use Specially Tools 8349 and C-4171 Driver Handle to tap the seal down to the cylinder block crankshaft bore by hammering with the bonnet body of the installer tool. After everything is cleaned and connected, install the flexplate and the transmission again.
