2003 Dodge Durango Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Crankshaft Seal on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: Before starting, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and also take off the accessory drive belt. After that, remove the bolts and nuts holding down the A/C compressor and set them aside, drain the cooling system and take out the upper radiator hose. Reach in under the engine, pull out the electrical connector for the fan inside the radiator shroud and remove all the fasteners that attach it-pay attention to the transmission cooler line snapping into the lower right corner of the shroud. First, remove the radiator cooling fan and its shroud and afterwards remove the crankshaft damper bolt. You should use Special Tool 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller to take out the damper, then use Special Tool 8511 to get rid of the crankshaft front seal. Make certain the bore and nose of the crankshaft and the damper, are free from dirt before installation. Install Seal Special Tool 8348 onto the front seal, then piece in Special Tool 8512 until it fits on top of the vibration damper. Reattach the radiator cooling fan and shroud, the upper radiator hose and the A/C compressor, securing everything with 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) torque. After all that, place the accessory drive belt and add fluid to the cooling system. Once that's done, attach the negative cable to the battery again.
