2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Heater Core on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before you access the heater core, switch off the air bag system by removing and isolating the negative (ground) battery cable and allow two minutes for the system capacitor to drain or temporary discharge, to keep the air bags from being deployed unexpectedly. We can complete the process without opening the HVAC's housing. Take out the HVAC housing at the beginning. After that, use a knife to remove the foam seal from the heater core tubes. If a Dual Zone system is found, unhook the linkage rod from the actuator levers to give you more room around the heater core. Unscrew the two screws holding the heater core tube bracket to the housing and then take the bracket out. Remove the heater core from HVAC housing and look at all foam seals; carry out repairs or replacements where possible. Fit the heater core into its place in the HVAC housing and slide the heater core tube bracket over the housing. Fasten the bracket to the motor by using the two screws and tighten them to 2.2 Nm or 20 in. lbs. Should it be necessary, place the linkage rod onto the actuator levers, then place the foam seal onto the heater core tubes and finally insert the completed HVAC housing.
