2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Wheel Bearings on a 9 1/4 Inch Rear Axle on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: For repair work on the 9 1/4 Inch rear axle bearings, first raise the vehicle, put the transmission in neutral and support it with a lift. Start by taking out the wheel and tire group, then the brake caliper, adapter and rotor. After that, remove the axle shaft and use a tiny pry bar to take off the axle seal from the tube. You can take out the seal and bearing at the same time by using the bearing removal tool. You can use Tool Bearing Remover 6310 and Tool 6310-9 in order to extract the axle shaft bearing. Before installing, clear both the axle tube bore and any old or extra sealer or burrs from it. With C-4198 installed and guide proper, place the axle shaft bearing on the vehicle so the bearing part number is facing you. Take new axle seal and coat the protruding part with axle lube. Fit it on by applying Installer C-4076-B and Handle C-4735-1, driving the seal in until the tool touches the tube. After installing the axle shaft, set the differential cover in place and pour in gear lubricant up to the fill plug hole. After that, install the brake rotor, caliper adapter and caliper, then place the wheel and tire back on. Next, support the car and remove the support once you've finished.
