2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valves and Intake Valves on 2002 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Make sure you take out the cylinder head to access the valve repair. Then, place the head on stands or use the head bolts to go upside down through the top side to shield the injector tips. Subsequently, get rid of the injector clamp from the cylinder(s) you will service without touching the bolt underneath. Place the valve spring compressor mounting base with device 8319-A and screw in the injector clamp bolt finger tight. Following this, install the main part of the compressor, the washer and the nut over it and turn the nut clockwise until you can remove the washers from the locks. Use the compressor nut to turn the spring compressor to the left and then take out the spring compressor. Make sure to take out the retainers, springs, valve seals and valves and keep all parts suitable for reuse in order organized or numbered. Keep repeating the process for all the cylinders you are working on. When installing, put in new valve seals first: yellow springs for the intake and green seals for the exhaust valves. Fit the valves in their appropriate locations, as exhaust valves are differentiated by a dimple you can see on the valve head. Following that, slip in the valve springs and retainer, compress the springs with tool 813-A and install the valve retaining locks. Remove the compressor and do the same process for all of the other cylinders. Then, place the injector clamp and bolts, tighten them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and put the cylinder head into place.
