How to Service and Repair a Water Pump on 2002 Dodge Ram 3500?

Before working on or fixing the water pump, detach the battery negative cables and release all the cooling fluid. Take the bolt securing the wiring harness at the water pump's top and put the wiring harness to the side as you work. The next step is to fix the accessory drive belt, then remove all the bolts that hold the water pump in place. Clean the O-ring position and gasket face on the water pump for the cylinder block before installing the pump. If you spot any chips on the pump, leakage from the seal on the water shaft shown as coolant on the vent hole, rough or loose bearings or touching in the impeller when the water pump is spinning, replace the pump immediately. Before attaching, set a new O-ring seal in the groove on the water pump, fit the water pump and tighten the mounting screws to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Set the accessory drive belt back into place and install the bolt that holds the wiring harness. Put the coolant in the system, join the battery cables, crank the engine and keep it running to check for leaks.
