2002 Dodge Stratus Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2002 Dodge Stratus?
A: Prior to servicing or repairing a power steering pump, ensure both the engine and power steering fluid are turned off to prevent anything dangerous from happening, use only Mopar Atf+4 in the power steering system and never overfill. Open the reservoir lid and wipe it down before removing it, then refill the pump's reservoir to the right level, between the "Fill Range" markings and at normal room temperature around 21°C to 27°C (70°F to 80°F). Let the fluid settle for at least two minutes and run the engine for just a few seconds after that, before shutting it down. If it's needed, use more fluid, start the engine and repeat until the level does not change while you run the engine. Lift the front wheels, turn on the engine and move the steering wheel side to side, lightly making contact with the wheel stops, adding fluid if it's low. Lower the car and rotate the steering wheel slowly back and forth from one lock to the other. Then turn off the engine and check the hydraulic fluid level, adding more if it's low. Should the fluid look heavily foamed, give the vehicle a few minutes to relax and then carry out the steps again.
