2002 Jeep Liberty Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Throttle Cable and Linkage on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
A: To reach the throttle cable and linkage, pull up the accelerator pedal inside the vehicle, get the plastic clip and cable core out from the upper end of the pedal arm and then hold the brake pedal. Following that, remove the cable from the pedal arm and detach the metal clip attaching the cable to the dashboard. After removing the air box at the throttle body, remove the cable from its clip attached to the back of the dash panel and tug the cable housing up into the engine compartment. With the throttle held open wide, pull the pin from the throttle body bellcrank, then press the plastic mount release tab to detach it from the bracket-but be careful not to exert force that might break the tab. Slide the cable away from the throttle body bracket to take it off altogether. To set up the cable, push the mount into the throttle body mounting bracket until you can see that the release tab is over the hole. Insert the throttle cable pin into the throttle body bellcrank once you have the throttle at the wide open position. Place the cable housing into the rubber opening in the dash panel and put the metal clip on top to secure it to the dash. Insert the smooth wire of the throttle cable into the opening in the top of the pedal arm and push the small plastic retainer into the arm until it clicks in. After that, mount the air box on the throttle body, gently actuate the throttle and make sure there's no restriction before turning on the engine.
