2002 Jeep Wrangler Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Begin the steering knuckle service and repair by taking out the hub bearing and axle shaft, as you need these out for the ball stud operations in Tool Kit 6289. Take the tie-rod or drag link off the steering knuckle arm, unscrew the cotter pins from both ball studs and then remove the ball stud nuts. To separate the ball joints from the steering knuckle, use special tool C-4150A and remove the knuckle from the ball studs. First, slip the steering knuckle over the ball studs and put in the bottom retaining nut, turning it until the torque reaches 109 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) and then install your new cotter pin. Later, put in the high or top, retaining nut and tighten it to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.), then put in another new cotter pin. After that, tightly bolt in the hub bearing and axle shaft, then attach the steering knuckle arm to the tie-rod or drag link end.
