2002 Jeep Wrangler Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Address Issues with a Throttle Cable in a 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Begin the job of tuning the throttle control cable by lifting the accelerator pedal from within the vehicle and removing the upper plastic cable retainer and the core wire from the pedal arm. After that, pinch the sides of the cable housing retainer tabs under the dash to pop it out. Then bring the cable housing out and attach it inside the engine compartment. Remove the clip guides from the cable on the cylinder head cover and push the ball end of the cable towards the back of the vehicle to take out the throttle cable ball socket at the throttle body. Press the release tabs to bring down the throttle cable from the bracket and remove it from inside the vehicle. For installation, pass the throttle cable through the throttle body bracket hole until the retainer tabs snap into the bracket and then link the cable ball end to the throttle body linkage. Take one edge of the cable and fit it into the two guiding clips on the engine cylinder head cover. Then feed the opposite edge through the hole in the dash panel and let the retaining tabs lock into place. While you're in the drivers seat, put the throttle cable wire into the pedal hole and slide the index tab where it belongs, then use your finger to push the cable retainer completely into the pedal until it snaps in place. Always check for binding in the accelerator pedal before you start the engine.
