2001 Jeep Wrangler Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Throttle Cable on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: After getting inside the vehicle, pull the accelerator pedal up and remove the plastic cable retainer clip and accelerator cable from the top of the pedal arm. Then, press the two sides of the cable housing retainer tabs sitting against the dash to remove the cable housing and lead it into the engine compartment. To remove the throttle cable, disconnect its end from the guides on the engine cylinder head valve cover, then push the ball socket toward the back of the vehicle so it comes off the pin on the throttle body. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle body by pushing in the release tabs on the cable along and pulling the cable from the vehicle. To fit the cable, insert one end of it through the hole in the bracket. When the little tabs lock, link the other end with the throttle body ball. Fix the wire into the engine cylinder head valve cover guides, then push the attached wire through the opening in the dash to get the retaining tabs to snap into place. Slide the core wire of the throttle cable into the top hole of the accelerator pedal arm so that the index tab fits well and rotate and push the cable retainer clip into the pedal arm opening until it clicks in. Check for binding by operating the accelerator pedal before you turn on the engine.
