2003 Dodge Dakota Starter Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, you should remove the battery cable and support your vehicle from beneath, before touching the starter motor. Take out the nut connecting the starter motor to the stud on the transmission housing and also remove the bolt that joins them. Slide the transmission cooler tube bracket ahead along the tubes on the automatic vehicle so you can disconnect the starter motor from its lower stud. Drop the motor from the front of the transmission for easy removal of the nut holding the battery cable eyelet to the solenoid and make sure the motor isn't hanging from the air ducts. After that, take out the solenoid wire from the solenoid terminal stud and remove the battery cable solenoid wire from its receptacle on the starter solenoid to unfasten the starter motor from the transmission housing. Place the starter motor against the transmission housing and join the battery cable solenoid terminal wire harness connector to the one located on the starter solenoid. Attach the bike battery's cable to the solenoid B(+) terminal with the eyelet and use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 13.6 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Place the starter motor above the transmission stud and, with an automatic transmission, ensure the mounting tubes fit under the back part of the automatic transmission bracket. Start by putting the washers and bolt together on the starter, leaving them loose, then increase the tension until you reach 67.8 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Once done, move the vehicle down and attach the negative battery cable again.
