2003 Dodge Durango Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step in working on the drive belt is to unplug the negative cable from the battery. Push the tensioner until its stop is felt, removing the belt after. Next, slowly move the tensioner into its freearm location. While installing, the new belt should be directed around all pulleys apart from the idler pulley, as this is needed to keep the engine from getting overheated. Once you are done routing the belt, spin the tensioner arm until it hits the stop place, then bring the belt around the idler and allow the tensioner to drop onto all the pulleys. Always examine the belt wear indicator; for 4.7L engines, the distance between the tang and the housing stop cannot be more than 24 mm (0.94 inches). Should the measurement go over the limit, replace the serpentine accessory drive belt.
