2003 Dodge Neon Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Cigarette Lighter Outlet on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Before fixing or repairing the cigar lighter outlet, first turn off and isolate the negative battery cable. Take note of where the retaining bosses are inside the outlet. Put the 90-degree tips of the external snap ring pliers against the bosses and squeeze the pliers to force the bosses out of the base. You can either gently rock the pliers to extract the base through the ring on the shades or use a made-for-purpose tool. Take off the bases wires and leave the base where it is before getting rid of the mount ring. Hold the mount ring at the instrument panel, slip the wires through it and position the cap and ring so the tab at 9 o'clock matches the key in the panel. Fix the ring at the edge of the drive and match the base alignment rib which is at 11 o'clock, to the slot on the ring. Press the base down, where it should secure into the bezel. Place the cigar lighter cap, check that the element is working and only then reattach your battery negative wire.
