Rock the pliers somewhat or use a specialized tool to pull the base from the inside of the mounting ring. Take the base wires out of the mix and sit aside the base before you remove the base mount ring. During installation, position the mount ring on the instrument panel with the wires inserted inside and make certain the tab at 9 O'clock matches the key in the instrument panel. Apply the ring and fasten the looped wires to the base, aligning them so that the 11 o'clock mark on the base nut meets the slot in the ring. Pull up the base into the bezel so that it fastens, attach the cigar lighter cap and test the element before reattaching the battery negative cable.
