2003 Dodge Neon Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt for the A/C Compressor and Power Steering Pump on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Rotate the tensioner clockwise with a 17 mm wrench until the belt comes off the power steering pump pulley and afterwards, gently release the spring tension on the tensioner. After that, eliminate the drive belt and clear all loose material from the belt pulley grooves, making them oil, grease and coolant free, before installing the new one. You should replace the belt if you notice plenty of wear, frayed cords or deep glazing on the belt; normal cracks along the ribbed side of the Poly-V are expected, but cracks that are parallel are not. Guide and attach the belt so it goes around every pulley and so all of its V-grooves fit over the V-shaped grooves of the pulleys. Place the belt on all pulleys except for the power steering pump's pulley and then tighten up the belt with the 17 mm wrench so you can fit the belt around the power steering pulley's pulley. Once installed, check that the belt's length indicator falls between the given minimum and maximum marks, with the indicator on the new belt close to the nominal belt length mark.
