2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Crankshaft Seal on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: It's important to first take off the negative cable from the battery and remove the accessory drive belt when servicing or repairing the front crankshaft oil seal. After that, unfasten the A/C compressor mount and save the fasteners and drain the cooling system before removing the upper radiator hose. Detach the electrical connector from the fan in the radiator shroud and remove the radiator shroud's attaching fasteners, remembering that the transmission cooler line attaches to the shroud's lower right corner. Once you have unscrewed the fan and shroud, take out the damper bolt and use Special Tools 8513 Insert along with the 1026 Three Jaw Puller to take out the damper. Remove the crankshaft front seal using Special Tool 8511. When fitting the turbine, you should ensure both the damper bore and crankshaft nose are carefully cleaned to avoid damage. Before you install the vibration damper, insert Special Tool 8348 and 8512 to fit the crankshaft front seal. Put back the radiator cooling fan and shroud and also the upper radiator hose. Put back the A/C compressor and lock the fasteners in place with 54 Nm torque after which the accessory drive belt should be installed. Pour coolant into the cooling system and then attach the negative cable to the battery.
