2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: If you're located in the vehicle, you should remove the transmission before proceeding with the main bearing seal service. After that, remove the flexplate. After removing the crankshaft oil seal, it can't be reused and the crankshaft rear oil seal should be placed deep inside the seal using Special Tool 8506. Close the tool steadily until it does not turn, because when it is not properly installed, it could release the seal without removing it. Insert Special Tool 8506 into the crankshaft and spin it free to remove the rear oil seal. When installing, mount the magnetic seal guide, Special Tool 8349-2, to the back of the crankshaft and set the crankshaft rear oil seal onto the guide. With Special Tools 8349 and C-4171 Driver Handle in hand, use a hammer to push the seal into the cylinder block crankshaft bore and seal the installer to it. Put the flexplate and the transmission back on the engine after everyone has finished.
