2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How can a faulty or damaged passenger Air Bag be replaced on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: When replacing a damaged or faulty passenger air bag, make sure you first unhook and set aside the negative battery cable and leave everything for two minutes for the air bag system to discharge. Pull the glove box down from the instrument panel and remove the two large screws attaching the passenger air bag rear bracket to the reinforcement at the top of the glove box. After that, clear out the three small screws that secure the passenger air bag door flange under the same reinforcement. Pull through the passenger air bag pigtail wire connector and unplug the two screws securing the front bracket to the instrument panel cross body support. Pry the upper part of the passenger air bag door away from the instrument panel, using a trim stick or other wide flat-bladed tool and after disengaging the five snaps, detach the passenger air bag along with its door. First, properly place the passenger air bag and air bag door into the instrument panel and then screw on the first two screws found on the front bracket to 8 N.m (75 in. lbs.). Finally, add the two larger screws on the rear bracket to the same tightness. Press the air bag door firmly, snapping the six snaps on each door into place, then use your Allen key to tighten each one of the three small screws for the lower flange air bag door to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.). Apply pressure to the air bag connector as you gently push it back into the instrument panel. Roll the glove box back in place and do not reattach the negative cable on the battery until after finishing the supplemental restraint system verification after any repair or service to that system.
