2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the drive shaft on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Place safety stands under the vehicle, lift it and put the transmission in Neutral to gain access to the propeller shaft. Draw a line high on the axle pinion yoke or companion flange and on the propeller shaft or companion yoke, as a guide for installation. For Dana axles, first remove the bolts that hold the universal joint clamps to the pinion yoke. For Corporate axles, take off the bolts holding the companion yoke to the companion flange. Once the slip yoke is off the output shaft, the propeller shaft can be removed. Installation is done by fitting the slip yoke over the transmission or transfer case output shaft and matching the reference marks on the propeller shaft or companion yoke with the pinion yoke or companion flange. Place the universal joint into the outer yoke on the Dana axle, fasten the bolts to 29 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Place the companion yoke on the companion flange for Corporate axles, tighten its bolts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) and move along to the next step. Once done, drive the car to the ground.
