2003 Dodge Ram 2500 A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Accumulator in a Refrigerant System on 2003 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: First, turn off the battery negative cable, then gather all the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Unglue the screws that hold the accumulator and support bracket to the dash panel, removing the suction line refrigerant line fitting from the accumulator outlet and put plugs or tape over every opened refrigerant connection. After that, separate the inlet refrigerant line from the evaporator outlet, attach plugs or tape to both ends and get the accumulator out of the engine compartment. The first step for installation is to set the accumulator onto the bulkhead and leave it loose for now. Take out the tape or plugs from the accumulator inlet and evaporator outlet refrigerant line fittings and then join the inlet coupler to the evaporator outlet. After removing the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings, connect the suction sleeve from the suction line refrigerant to the accumulator outlet. Fasten the accumulator screws to a torque of 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.), tie back the battery negative cable, evacuate the accordion and charge it by reinserting the refrigerant. Whenever the accumulator is swapped out, follow up by putting into the system 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil, following recommendations for the compressor in the car.
