2002 Dodge Ram 2500 A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: For maintenance on the accumulator HVAC, first turn off the battery and snake off the - cable, followed by removing the refrigerant from the refrigeration part. Open the a/c low pressure switch cord from the accumulator and loosen the screw that holds the accumulator band to its support bracket on the dash. Remove the fitting on the suction line refrigerant from the accumulator outlet and close all other opened refrigerant line fittings with plugs or tape. After that, separate the refrigerant line fitting from the evaporator outlet and seal or fill both openings by plugging or taping them. Lift the accumulator from the retaining band and remove it from inside the engine compartment. After rolling up the retaining band, join the accumulator to it and remove any sealant or plugs from the couplers on the line fittings. Attach the accumulator inlet line to the evaporator outlet fitting. Screw in the accumulator retaining band until the torque reaches 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.), then take off the tape or plugs from the refrigerant fittings on the suction line and accumulator outlet. After that, attaches the suction line refrigerant coupler to the accumulator outlet. Connect and install the a/c low pressure switch to the accumulator, then connect the battery negative cable back to it. Withdraw the refrigerant from the system, only to replace it after proper charging. If you replace the accumulator, add 2 fluid ounces (or 60 milliliters) of refrigerant oil particular to the compressor to the refrigerant system.
