2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service and Repair a Front Brake Caliper Without Damaging the Brake Hose on 2003 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before servicing the caliper, make sure it is being supported so the brake hose does not get damaged. Brace the brake pedal with a prop rod to maintain stopping force in the brakes before you raise the vehicle. Take out the tire and wheel first, press the disc brake caliper and then remove the banjo bolt, throwing away the copper washer. After that, extract the caliper slide pin bolts and take off the disc brake caliper. For the caliper installation, put fresh silicone or rubber washers on the banjo bolt, set the disc brake caliper in place and don't twist the brake hose as you tighten the fitting. Fasten the banjo bolt using two new copper washers against the caliper, then tighten it to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) Next, tighten the slide pin bolts to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). After setting aside the prop rod, bleed the base brake system, fit the tire and wheel and lower the car to the ground.
