2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2003 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Prior to accessing the auxiliary cigarette lighter, remove and disconnect the battery negative cable at its end. Release the cigarette lighter knob and element from the lighter base by turning it counter-clockwise or remove the plastic cap from the cigarette lighter base. Examine the inner part of the base to find where the rectangular retaining bosses are positioned fixing the receptacle to the panel. Use your external snap ring pliers to hook onto the bosses, squeeze lightly and rock the receptacle to slide it out of the mount. Take the receptacle base away from the instrument panel so you can find the wire harness connector and break it from the connection on the base. Get rid of the mount from the instrument panel. Put the wire harness connector back into the receptacle base, position the mount into the instrument panel's splines and adjust the connector pins in the base to line up with the grooves in the mount. Apply force to the bolts until you feel the retaining bosses are completely in place. Lastly, add the button to the lighter and then fit the cigarette lighter element or cap and remember to attach the battery's negative cable.
