2004 Chrysler 300M Crankshaft Timing Gear Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Inspect a Crankshaft Timing Gear on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: Before removing the crankshaft timing gear, first take the timing belt off using Special Tool L-4407-A. To inspect the timing belt, remove its covers and look at both sides of the belt for: a back rubber that hardens like glass and isn't flexible, cracks in the back rubber, torn canvas, cracks on the rib, cracked or frayed rubber sides, missing teeth or sharp cuts or grooves around the belt sides. Don't forget to calculate the time between the last time components were serviced or how much the vehicle has been used. If there is a problem with the belt, change it; but if all is fine, put the belt cover back into place. When installing the crankshaft timing gear, make sure the depth is correct using Special Tool 6641 and then use Special Tools 6641 and C-4685-C1 to fix the timing gear, before putting the timing belt in place.
