2004 Chrysler 300M Piston Ring Set Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Piston Ring Set on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: Open up the top to unscrew the piston and connecting rod and then fit the ring expander tool inside the piston to pull out the piston rings. You should then take out the upper and lower side rail and the oil ring expander too. Update your service data by measuring how much space remains between the double piston rings and both the cylinder bore and piston. Place the oil ring expander, upper oil ring side rail, lower oil ring side rail, No. 2 intermediate piston ring and No. 1 upper piston ring one after the other when installing the piston rings. Install the side rail by putting one end inside the piston ring groove next to the expander, holding it tightly and push down until it is in place without an expander. Secure the upper side rail, then the lower side rail, so that the No. 2 piston ring shows the manufacturer's 'ID' mark in the up position. Next, set the No. 2 piston ring, install the No. 1 piston ring, make sure the ring end gaps are correct and keep the oil ring expander 45° or further away from the side rails, not on the piston pin axis or in the thrust direction to allow strong oil control.
