2004 Chrysler 300M CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a CV Boot on the Inner Constant Velocity Joint on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: Before changing the inner constant velocity joint boot, take out the halfshaft assembly from your vehicle. Untighten the side clamps and lift off both sealing boots, then lift the tripod sealing boot off the housing and down the connecting shaft. As you take the spider joint off the tripod, place your hand on the rollers so they are held firmly and don't come out. After that, extract the interconnecting rod and spider assembly from the tripod joint housing, release the snap ring that holds on the spider assembly to the rod and if needed, hit the end of the spider body with a brass drift to remove it. Check the spider, tripod joint housing and connecting shaft for too much wear; if anything is worn, replace the halfshaft assembly. To install, clamp the first part of the inner tripod joint seal onto the rod and make sure you do not expose the biggest gap on the second seal to the air. Add the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft so that it is far enough away to place the retaining snap ring correctly. Half of the grease from the kit goes inside the tripod housing and the rest goes inside the sealing boot. Put the spider assembly into the tripod joint housing, put the shaft in and evenly install the inner tripod joint seal boot clamp on the seal boot. Attach the boot to the interconnecting shaft, using Crimper, Special Tool C-4975 and carefully check not to stretch or dimple the seal. Slide the sealing boot into the opening on the tripod housing, bolt the seal boot retaining clamp in place and secure the safety boot with the crimping tool. After that, put the halfshaft back into the vehicle.
