2004 Chrysler 300M Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Right Exhaust Manifold on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: To install the correct exhaust manifold, first take off the negative battery cable and then raise the car with a hoist. Take out the exhaust system and afterward, clear away the bolts on the converter pipe and A/C belt before rolling the car down from the lift. Then, remove the air cleaner housing and air inlet tube and loosen and remove the V-Band clamp at the exhaust manifold connector, never to use the clamp again. Get rid of the A/C compressor bolts and move the compressor to one side, then remove the engine oil dipstick tube and the A/C compressor bracket. Remove the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor and then pull out the sensor. Then remove the heat shield bolts and remove the heat shields. At last, remove all the bolts that connect the exhaust manifold and take out the manifold and gasket. Look for any damage or cracks on the exhaust manifolds, measure if the manifold head is flat, verify any discoloration or distortion on the exhaust manifold gasket and use a straightedge and gauge to check any changes in the cylinder head mounting surface. After putting on the exhaust manifold and gasket, tighten the bolts starting with the bolts in the center and then tighten the rest clockwise to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Position the heat shields and tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) and following this, mount the oxygen sensor to the manifold and plug the electrical connector into it. Reconnect the compressor mounting bracket, engine oil dipstick tube and slide in the A/C compressor with the belt as well. Install a new exhaust clamp and tighten it to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.), followed by raising the car on the hoist to continue. After tightening the nut that holds the converter pipe support to the transaxle mount to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), lower the car and add both the air cleaner housing and air inlet tube.
