• Q: How to Maintain the Thermostat in a 2.7L Engine on 2004 Chrysler Concorde?

  A: Before performing service on the engine coolant thermostat, ensure by first removing the negative cable from the remote jumper terminal and do not remove the pressure cap if the system is still hot and under pressure, to avoid severe burns from coolant. Drain all the cooling system fluid, followed by removing the engine oil dipstick and tube. Once that's done, seal the opening in the crankcase under the dipstick tube to trap out the coolant. The left engine mount should be removed after raising and supporting the engine on a hoist. After that, take off the support strut and detach the electrical connection from the generator. First, take out the attaching bolt for the transaxle dipstick tube bracket, then the bolt that holds the lower heater hose tube bracket. After removing the heater and radiator lower hoses from the housing, remove the housing fasteners and take out the thermostat and housing. When putting in the thermostat, clean the gasket areas, insert the bleed valve at the 12 o'clock spot of the thermostat and then set the gasket into place in the thermostat housing. Seat the thermostat and housing onto the cylinder block and tighten every bolt to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Secure the heater return hose and radiator lower hose to the thermostat housing using hose clamps and reconnect the main heater hose tube bracket and transaxle dipstick tube bracket attaching bolt. Put back the generator support strut and connect the generator wire, then set in place the left engine mount. Raise the vehicle, change the dipstick O-ring if it is worn, lower the vehicle and install the dipstick and tube again. Add fluid to the cooling system and then join the remote jumper's negative terminal to your car's negative terminal.
