2004 Chrysler Crossfire Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2004 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: You should begin by removing the flywheel and both end cover bolts from the crankshaft, then take off the cover and throw away both the cover and the oil seal. The engine block and oil pan gasket surfaces should be carefully cleaned. Coat the area on the new end cover with a 1.5 mm to 2 mm bead of Loctite 5203 sealer as suggested and set the new end cover without the seal in place, then put in the retaining bolts and tighten them to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). Clean the edge of the hole where the rear crankshaft oil seal will mount and check that the oil seal's edge is still intact and unsmashed. The circumference and side lip within the small groove on the rear seal, plus the corresponding surface, should be oil- and grease-free. Set the rear crankshaft oil seal into the new end cover by adding Special Tool 9100 and no more than 1 mm (0.039 in.) between the seal and the edge of the cover in every direction. The last step is to pull out the Special Tool 9100 Rear Seal Installer and set the flywheel back in place.
