2004 Chrysler Crossfire Timing Chain Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Chain on 2004 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: The first step is removing the timing chain cover, then take out both the oil pump drive chain and the tensioner. After that, take off both camshaft sprocket bolts followed by removing the timing chain and both camshaft sprockets, plus the timing chain crankshaft sprocket. Examine the gasket sections, chain guides and sprockets to see if they have wear or damage and fix or replace them when required. Mount the engine on the stand upside down and place the crankshaft sprocket; rotate the crankshaft if needed until it's at 40 degrees ahead of top dead center (ATDC). Guide the balance shaft's sprocket to the correct position as indicated by the timing mark on the housing, also lining it up with the copper teeth of the timing chain. This makes it easy to slide in the camshaft sprockets, position their timing marks with the copper teeth on the chain. Screw the sprockets in place and make sure the timing chain stays connected with the chain guides. Use Special Tools 9104 and 9105 Camshaft Locating Plates to secure the camshaft sprockets and then rise up the engine to fit the oil pump, oil pump drive chain and oil pump drive chain tensioner. Lift the engine and place it back in its place. Then, put on the timing chain cover and tighten its bolts to 20 Nm. After that, take out Special Tools 9104 and 9105 from the camshaft sprockets.
