2005 Chrysler Crossfire Timing Chain Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service a timing chain on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: The first step of servicing the timing chain is to take off the timing chain cover, the oil pump drive chain and the tensioner. Then, unbolt the camshaft sprockets at the left and right sides and take out the timing chain together with the sprockets and the timing chain crankshaft sprocket. All gasket surfaces, chain guides and sprockets should be cleaned and checked for holes or damage which should be fixed or replaced as appropriate. After you have turned the engine upside down on the engine stand, install the crankshaft sprocket and make sure the crankshaft is at the 40 degrees ATDC position. Put the balance shaft sprocket over the timing mark and the timing chain's copper teeth and then place the camshaft sprockets into the timing chain, making sure the camshaft sprocket timing marks match the teeth. Secure the timing chain together with the sprockets and maneuver it through the timing chain guides. Secure the camshaft sprockets by using Special Tools 9104 and 9105 Camshaft Locating Plates and then proceed to put on the oil pump, its drive chain and the oil pump drive chain tensioner. Lift the engine into its proper position and fit the timing chain cover so that the bolts are 20 Nm. Remove the last Special Tools 9104 and 9105 from the camshaft sprockets in the end.
