2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Power Steering Pump Pulley on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The only part on the pump that can be serviced is the pulley, so the pump needs to be outside the vehicle. The pulley is made from plastic composite parts, so it needs special care, with the exception of the center shank and professional tools should be applied only when permitted. To remove the pulley, place Puller, Special Tool C-4333 or a substitute, on the steering pump pulley and tighten the puller screw drive to pull out the pulley from the power steering shaft. As you are assembling, fit a new power steering pump pulley if the old one is cracked or loose. Square up the pulley with the pump shaft and use Special Tool C-4063 or an alternate, to mount it in the shaft threads nearest to the pulley. Keep the installer and pulley straight while turning the outer nut to push the pulley onto the shaft until it meets the end. With the installer flash button pressed, the outer nut will no longer turn, letting the installer be removed. Mount the power steering pump onto the engine at the last step.
