Power Steering Pump is one of the most important parts in Chrysler PT Cruiser car that is responsible for converting the engine power to hydraulic power for steering. Through transmitting this power to the steering system, the pump relieves the amount of force which is required to steer the wheels enhancing the easy maneuver for the driver. Pump works on principle of injecting predetermined amount of energy into the steering system especially, while the automobile is slow-moving, or at a standstill. Chrysler PT Cruiser models may have hydraulic or electric actuators to control this feedback factor to increase the steering effort and guarantee that it is possible even if there is a power system failure. In general, it can be concluded that the Power Steering Pump is a significant component that helps to decrease the driving force and improve the steering system of Chrysler PT Cruiser cars.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Power Steering Pump on a 2.0L or 2.4L Engine on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
Before taking out and remounting the power steering pump on a 2.0L or 2.4L engine, get rid of any fluid in the cooling system. After that, get rid of the Timing Belt, plus the camshaft sprockets as well as the rear timing belt cover. With that, unscrew the pump's screws from the engine and remove it (2).
  • Q: How to Install a Power Steering Pump Inlet Cover on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
First, add Mopar(R) Dielectric Grease or equivalent, to a New sealing O-ring, then install it into the groove created by where the inlet cover contacts the housing. Insert the seven fasteners in a circle around the pump's edges and tighten them to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) torque. Should a pulley need to be installed, put it in place after following the instructions in this step. Slide the Water Pump assembly onto the power steering pump shaft, then turn the water pump until the upper side of its outlet lies close to the upper mounting holes while aligning its fastener holes. To reach the hex on the water pump impeller, put a 1/4 inch drive 10 mm socket through the coolant inlet and push it into one end of the heater hose, keeping a 6 inch long extension behind it and push the extension to fit over the hex in the center of the impeller. On one side, securely tighten the power steering pump shaft with a hex wrench, then with a ratchet, clockwise the water pump extension which makes the impeller tighten with a force of 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.) against the power steering pump. Clean the area around the worm gear by removing the 10 mm socket, 1/4 inch extension, ratchet and hex wrench. Line up all three pump fastener holes and use three hex drive bolts with washers, tightening them to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.) torque before you install the assembly on the vehicle.
