2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Transmission Speed Sensor on 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: You should raise the car on a hoist and first disconnect the connector of the transmission speed sensor before proceeding with the service or repair. Make sure to clean the space around the speed sensor so that no dirt gets into the transaxle as you take it out. After that, unscrew the speed sensor retaining bolt and take the sensor from the transaxle, but make sure that the sensor drive gear remains attached to the sensor, as it could fall inside and you need to fix it on the sensor. Take out the speed sensor drive gear from the speed sensor. Attach the pinion gear to the speed sensor and after that, use a NEW O-ring to fit the speed sensor back into the transaxle. Make sure to bolt the rotor down, apply 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.) of torque and then re-attach the speed sensor. After that, drive the vehicle at different speeds and ensure the speedometer performs properly.
