Advance the torque converter so its center hub fits outside the oil pump seal and after that, separate it from the transmission. Do not install the converter hub or drive unless you check them for rough edges and, if present, rub them smooth with 320/400 grit paper or crocus cloth. Apply some transmission fluid to the hub and the seal of the oil pump and make sure the converter is not scraping against the seal or bushing as you place it on the transmission. Position the converter so its opening is against the oil pump seal's edge, place the hub into the pump, then push the console toward the pump as you rotate it until it is seated properly in the pumping gears. After placing a scale and straightedge, confirm the surface of the converter lugs is 1/2 inch past the tip of the straightedge once it is all the way in. If you have to, clamp down the converter inside the housing and put the transmission back into the car. Then add the suggested fluid.
