2004 Chrysler Sebring Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Shifter on 2004 Chrysler Sebring?
A: You should disconnect the negative cable from the battery and separate it before doing any service or repair on the gearshift mechanism. Next, open the gearshift to remove the set screw, the knob, the bezel and the lamp that shows the car's range step-by-step. After that, get rid of the center console assembly. Unscrew the shift cable adjust lever to loosen it, use a flat blade pry tool to remove the shifter cable core from the lever pin and pull the cable conduit clip up from the shifter bracket, pulling out the cable conduit. Push a pointed instrument into the shift bracket to release the lock, pull out the shifter/interlock cable core from the gearshift bracket and remove the cable. Should the vehicle be so equipped, unplug the Autostick connector. Take out the five nuts beneath the shifter and take the assembly out of the car. Place the shift lever machine back into the shift tube and use pan nuts to hold it in place at 17 Nm (150 in. lbs.). Link the gearshift cable to the harness bracket and shift pin and then hold it in place with a retaining clip. Adjust the cable so that its adjuster nut is tightened to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Pull the cable through the interlock adjustment lever groove, making sure the interlock cable slug is inserted and then snap the adjuster end part into the bracket. Wind each gearshift cable to the reverse side and adjust the interlock cable, as these are important to fix. Use the Autostick connector if your vehicle has Autostick. Set the center console in place again, work on the range lamp connection and mount the gearshift bezel. Install the gearshift knob, tighten its fixation screw to 2 Nm or 20 in. lbs. and reconnect the negative battery cable at the terminal.
