Q: How to Remove and Install Car Speakers in Different Cab Configurations on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: Remove the front door lower speaker by cutting off the negative battery cable and then pull out the plastic trim panel from the door. Following that, unscrew the speaker from the front door, move it aside, expose the wire harness connector and release the front door connector from the speaker before pulling the speaker out of the door panel. To mount the speaker, attach its cable to the front door wire harness inside the car door. Insert it into the mounting hole, secure with the two mounting screws, set both screw heads to 17 in. lbs (2 Nm) and set the trim panel in place. To unlock the front door upper speaker, pull off the battery's negative cable, take out the panel surrounding the speaker, unscrew the speaker from its position on the back of the panel and lift the speaker out. First, set the front door upper speaker behind the trim panel, then tighten all the screws to 12 in. lbs., connect the harness connector to the speaker, put the trim panel back in place and reattach the battery negative cable again. For the rear door speaker, first take away the negative wire from the battery, then remove the trim panel, unscrew the speaker from the door panel, pull out the speaker, pop off the rear door wire connector and remove the speaker. During installation, link the wire harness connector from the rear door to the speaker, hold the speaker in the mounting hole, tighten the mounting screws to 3.9 Nm (35 in. lbs.), snap the trim panel in and plug back in the negative battery cable. On the rear cab side of the Club Cab, turn off the engine, isolate the negative battery cable, drive out the rear cab side trim cap, undo the three screws holding the speaker, slide the speaker off to find the wire harness, cut loose the wire harness from the speaker and uninstall the speaker. Place the speaker at the rear cab side inner panel, fasten the body wire harness connector to the speaker, screw the mounts into place until tightened to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), reinstall the panel and reconnect the battery negative cable. In a Regular Cab, go to the B-pillar, disconnect the battery negative cable, open the trim panel there, pull it away and connectors, separate the speaker from the body wire harness, extract the screws that secure the speaker to the B-pillar trim, then release the speaker. To install the speaker, put it over the back of the B-pillar trim, tighten the screws to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), connect the body wire harness to the speaker, reattach the trim panel and reconnect the car's main negative terminal.
